2011 Mercury Milan

All the recent hype about hybrids, not so many good models petrol / electric powered beyond what you might expect. 2011 Mercury Milan Hybrid is a notable exception, although the decision to abandon the brand of the Ford Mercury means that the whole is not available for much longer.

This midsize sedan is close to a clone of the Ford Fusion Hybrid, and manages to avoid the shortcomings that make many other hybrid models, pretty poor. In fact, it is safe to say, Milan Hybrid offers a combination of respectable performance, excellent fuel economy, looks, spacious interior and a reasonable price that some of the other hybrids are not able to respond.

Milan Hybrid starts out as mostly a little 'better equipped Base Milan. This is a combination of four-cylinder gasoline engine with two Mercury battery electric motor / generator and continuously variable transmission (CVT). EPA expects to get 41 mpg city and 36 highway mpg for this transmission, which is significantly better than the numbers published by other competitors in the midsize sedan class Milan.

As with regular in Milan, the hybrid also has a spacious cabin, well finished loaded with luxury features reflective. Highlights of these are dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking assistance system and an excellent Ford Sync multimedia voice control. The starter does not suffer from the space occupied by the battery, but there is still enough room for a good amount of luggage or equipment.

As for hybrids, we firmly believe twins Fusion / Milan Hybrid and Toyota Prius. The same goes for the Nissan Altima Hybrid, but not sold in 50 states. The jury is still out on the upcoming 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, but the rest of the hybrids on the market - including the Honda Insight and the Toyota Camry Hybrid - it's less fun to drive, not as a fuel, far from elegant or as a combination of these.

So if you want a green car that does not sacrifice style, performance and comfort, it's worth the time to watch the 2011 Mercury Milan Hybrid, before it becomes history.

The 2011 Mercury Milan is available in two basic flavors: the base model, which starts at $ 22,025, and the first level, which starts at $ 25 165. The base model offers a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder as its main energy source. This provides power to the wheels through a manual or automatic transmission. The powertrain is reasonably effective, and the combination of engine and transmission can occur up to 22 miles per gallon in the city and up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway. Chief designer Darrell Behmer and his team had the advantage of working from a vehicle that has been welcomed by consumers and consumer groups. "Our approach was to build on the strengths of Milan - to improve, rather than reinvent," said Behmer. "In terms of design, we wanted to clarify the design, making it cleaner and more modern."

The exterior design changes focused on the grill, fenders, hood, fascias and front and rear. The chin is pushed forward and the fascia has been knocked down to give the 2010 Mercury Milan more sporty look. These changes and the important work of the floor cleaner, the car more aerodynamic.

With all models, the team created interior design more modern look with metallic finish technique on the new dashboard, bringing through the center console, doors and steering wheel. The Mercury Grand Marquis has been the go-to option for those few that want a rear-drive, body-on-frame sedan since Ford made the Crown Victoria a fleet-only offering a couple of years ago. The 2010 model year is the last year for the Grand Marquis as well as the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car, as Ford will finally retire the Panther platform after 30 years of service.Ford has kept the Grand Marquis on cruise control for several years and has not spent the time or money to equip it with modern features like a navigation system, a new engine, or a new transmission. The Grand Marquis' 4.6L V-8 packs just 224 hp but a more-impressive 275 lb-ft of torque, though both figures are easily best by many modern V-6 engines. A four-speed automatic is the only transmission available, and yet the powertrain returns a relatively-good 24 mpg on the highway.

This Mercury's fuel economy (like its body structure) is rather trucklike. Finally, the cabin might be wide but the legroom is nevertheless limited, despite this car's large footprint.
Given these elderly attributes in a youthful world, it's been difficult to recommend the Grand Marquis for the better part of the last two decades. As it goes to the big garage in the sky with the rest of its Mercury family, the 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis leaves behind a wealth of impressive, thoroughly modern big sedans that provide the comfort, space, performance and fuel economy today's buyers should expect, along with a few modern conveniences the Grand Marquis never got around to offering. These cars include such young whippersnappers as the Buick LaCrosse, Chrysler 300, Ford Taurus, Hyundai Genesis and Toyota Avalon.
The Grand Marquis is survived by its cousin, the Lincoln Town Car. We wouldn't buy that either. Funeral services will be held near the Hertz rental desk at the Ft. Lauderdale airport.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is a full-size sedan that seats six people. Standard equipment includes 17-inch wheels, rear air suspension, automatic headlights, foglamps, keyless entry, automatic climate control, a 50/50 split front bench with six-way driver and passenger power adjustability, power-adjustable pedals, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a tilting leather-wrapped steering wheel and a CD player stereo. Options include heated seats, a leather-wood steering wheel and a cassette player.

Powertrains and Performance

The rear-wheel-drive 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 good for only 224 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic is standard. Going from zero to 60 mph requires about 8.5 seconds, which is on par with many four-cylinder-powered sedans. Fuel economy is 16 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 19 combined. That's a big improvement over 1978, but pretty disappointing today given this car's meager power.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, traction control and front-seat side airbags. Neither stability control nor side curtain airbags is offered. Nonetheless, the Grand Marquis has fared well in crash tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, scoring a perfect five stars for both frontal and side impacts. However, while the big Mercury earned the top rating of "Good" in frontal-offset crash testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it garnered a "Marginal" rating -- second worst on a scale of four -- in side-impact crash testing.

Driving Impressions

Driving the 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is like taking a trip back in time, but without the fun of seeing your parents when they were teenagers. While rival full-size sedans generally provide decent handling and driver control, the Grand Marquis' prodigious size, cushy suspension and zero-effort steering combine to simulate the experience of piloting the Goodyear blimp. The V8 provides healthy torque off the line but not much after that.

This is the third great marquis I have obtained over the years,I changed in a 2007 cadi DTS,what a piece of crap.I bought the 2010 with 10K miles on it for 17,000 out the door.Compared to the cadillac,I'm grinning when I run over to drive it.I've put these autos through their paces,Hammer down each second of the time,slight back slide-out at 90 miles for every hour.

Is the Cougatti Just the Purtiest 2002 Mercury Cougar you ever did see?

Sure, most people would love to have a Bugatti Veyron; sadly, at over a million bucks a pop we're talking a vehicle that's slightly out of reach for most consumers. Thankfully, one man and eBay have rectified this issue with something we'll call a Cougatti (or Bougar).

Based on a 112,000-mile 2002 Mercury Cougar with a V6 and automatic transmission, this one-of-one Cougatti has a starting bid of $89,000 and no takers as of this writing. Potential buyers get all the body work, 20-inch wheels, angel eye HID headlights, LED tails, two gas caps (one functional), and power windows/mirrors.

No pics of the interior just yet, but the seller says it is "in progress" and "very close to being ready for upholstery".

2009 Mercury Milan review

The 2010 Mercury Milan debuted at the 2008 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show alongside the 2010 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. It received significant cosmetic updates, with new front and rear fascias, revised wheel designs, and a redesigned dashboard.


Engine options consist of the Duratec 25 four cylinder and Duratec 30 V6. A hybrid version is also offered, with an Atkinson cycle variant of the Duratec 25 gasoline engine paired with a 106 horsepower AC synchronous electric motor and continuously variable transmission.
