Slotting above the 'mere' SL 63 AMG, the SL 65 features a 6.0-liter V12 engine that pumps out an astounding 604 horsepower.Even more impressive is the 738 lb-ft. of torque, a combination that makes this two-door 'Benz the perfect answer for those in search of excess.
Because of all this torque and power, the SL 65 makes due with Mercedes' ultra-stout five-speed automatic transmission, rather than the six or seven-speed transmissions that seem de rigueur in high performance cars today. Still, Mercedes-Benz estimates that the SL 65 will hit 62 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds.
The SL 65 features the same new styling that dresses up the rest of the latest SL roadster lineup. Rounded dual headlamps are out, replaced by angular bi-Xenon lamps that Mercedes says are more efficient and powerful than LEDs. With a black background to the lamps and a simplified grill, the SL's face is substantially changed with the facelifted model.
The SL chassis uses a fully independent, double-control-arm front suspension and the standard Mercedes-Benz five-link rear suspension. All SL models come with second-generation Active Body Control (ABC), the Mercedes-Benz active-suspension technology that attempts to eliminate body roll in cornering, squat under acceleration and dive during braking.
Unique to the AMG variants is a highly aggressive bodykit that features front and rear diffusers and multiple vents to cool both the motor and the massive brakes. Standard wheels are 19-inch AMG staggered-width alloy wheels -- 8.5 and 9.5 inches wide -- fitted with 255/35R19 (front) and 285/30R19 (rear) tires. The wheels feature triple-spoke styling and a titanium grey finish.
The AMG treatment also includes a lowered and stiffened suspension and a limited-slip rear differential.
Finished in nappa leather and genuine carbon fiber, the interior features standard AMG sport seats, an AMG three-spoke steering wheel and a sport instrument cluster with red tach and speedometer needles that swing to the max position and back whenever the ignition is turned on.
The SL 65, like all SLs, features a folding metal roof. A glass panorama roof remains an option.

The 2010 SL63 AMG is engineered for folks who demand cars that are bold, powerful, luxurious and crazy expensive. They’re not practical, but neither are people who shop in this class. If you’re in the market for a vehicle like this, count your lucky stars -- but also consider a Porsche 911 Turbo. It features 18 less horsepower than the SL63; but has a top speed of 194 mph, blasts from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds (that’s more than one second faster than the Benz) and provides more thrilling handling dynamics. Starting at $132,800, the 911 Turbo is also $6,250 cheaper.
Like the SL63 AMG, but want something even more exclusive? Check out the SL65 AMG. It features a mind-blowing 604-horsepower V12 engine and costs about $60,000 more. Just don’t be surprised if driving it makes you enemies.

The SL63 AMG is equipped with a 6.3-liter V8 engine that generates 518 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 465 pound-feet of torque at 5,200 rpm. An AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS seven-speed automatic transmission is standard. According to Mercedes-Benz, the SL63 AMG has a top speed of 155 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. The EPA has not yet rated the 2010 model, but reports that the highly-similar 2009 model nets a city/highway fuel economy of 12/19 mpg.
The rear-wheel-drive SL63 AMG features rack-and-pinion power steering and a sports suspension system with Active Body Control (ABC). Also standard is a high-performance AMG braking system with anti-lock brakes, Brake Assist, and an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) that enhances stability in adverse driving conditions by selectively applying brakes and reducing engine torque.

MR Car Design Tunes up the Pre-Facelift Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG

The pre-facelift Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG is the object of MR Car Design's latest tuning program. The exterior kit for the hardtop roadster model includes a lightweight carbon fiber hood from Kicherer, smoked up turn signals all around and the rear diffuser from the newer 2009MY SL 65 AMG. A set of shiny 20-inch alloy wheels from Carlsson and custom-made Black Series gauge dials inside complete the styling package.

To improve performance, the Germany-based tuning firm optimized the bi-turbocharged V12 engine's ECU and added a custom sports exhaust system, which help lift output by 80HP for a total of 692-horses. The removal of the electronic speed limiter and the addition of an electronic module that lower the roadster model's ride height by 30 mm round off the changes.

NYC Beware: 2012 Mercedes CLS 63 AMG Fashion Police Car out to Capture Trendsetters on the Streets

If you happen to be in New York City for the next week or so and consider yourself a trendy person, keep an eye out for a 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG clad in a Fashion Force uniform resembling a police car. To explain, as part of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week festivities, the German sports saloon will be patrolling the streets of Manhattan to spot "style setters".

Those that fit the description will be pulled over and rewarded with a ride to their next destination and have their picture taken, while several will receive invitations to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week runway shows as well as to the official fashion force culmination event, hosted by Brad Goreski in the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge.

"The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Force car is a statement about New York being one of the greatest fashion capitals of the world and the confident approach to individualistic style that people strive to explore throughout this amazing city," said stylist Brad Goreski.

We'd like to assume that picking up trend setters from the streets is not what the AMG division's engineers had in mind when crafting the 2012 CLS 63 AMG, but then again, we doubt that Merc's clientele are your typical speed freaks.

"Mercedes-Benz has a natural affinity with the world of fashion with cars that appeal to those with a strong sense of style," said Lisa Holladay, manager of brand experience for Mercedes-Benz USA. "The 2012 CLS 63 AMG four-door coupe is the perfect vehicle for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Force initiative with its fascinating design and significant curb appeal."

Mercedes-Benz Shows New C-Class Coupe and SLS AMG Roadster in Super Bowl Spots

In an exclusive pre-game release and following a behind-the-scenes version that we showed you on Friday, Mercedes-Benz has published an extended cut edition of its Super Bowl XLV commercial called 'Welcome'. With this ad, the German automaker 'welcomes' four new additions to its range including the next generation SLK roadster and CLS 63 AMG, as well as two never before seen (at least not officially) models, the SLS AMG Roadster and the C-Class Coupe. 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG: New Photos and Added Details

Last week, Mercedes-Benz accidentally dropped the ball on the refreshed C63 AMG, and even though the automaker quickly removed all photos and information, the damage was done and we got our first look at the Stuttgart firm's performance model. Today, the Germans came out with an official release and a new set of photos of both the sedan and Estate versions of the 2012MY C63 AMG.

In the styling department, the C63 AMG models receive similar exterior and interior revisions as the standard C-Class models including new headlamps and a pointier front grille, plus a new dashboard design with an integrated screen on the top part of the center console.

The AMG treatment adds a restyled bodykit, a new aluminium bonnet with modified powerdomes, and bespoke 18-inch alloys wrapped in 235/40 R 18 and 255/35 R 18 tires at front and rear respectively, along with a three-dimensional TFT display in the middle of the redesigned speedometer and a flat-bottom three-spoke AMG performance steering wheel trimmed in nappa leather and featuring a metallic trim.

Under the skin, the 6.2-liter V8 remains unchanged for the 2012MY, producing 457HP and 600Nm / 442 lb-ft of torque in standard trim and 487HP with the optional AMG Performance package.

However, the C63 AMG obtains a new 7-speed sports transmission with the "Controlled Efficiency" mode as standard along with a new speed-sensitive sports steering with a direct ratio (13.5 : 1) and a newly developed power-steering pump that help reduce the combined consumption by about ten percent to 12.0 lt/100 km or 19.6mpg US (Estate: 12.3 l/100 km).

In terms of performance, the standard 457HP C63 AMG sedan completes the 0-100km/h [62 mph] sprint in 4.5 seconds (Estate: 4.6 s), while the 487HP model in 4.4 seconds (Estate: 4.5 s). Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

According to Mercedes, over the past three and a half years it has sold more than 17,000 C63 AMGs worldwide, with 88 percent of buyers opting for the sedan and 12 percent for the Estate. The Performance Package has proven to be successful with more than 30 percent of all the C 63 AMG models delivered in 2010 specified with this option.

The latest iteration of the C63 AMG will have its world premiere at next month's Geneva Salon with sales set to start in July. Prices in Germany start at €71,340 for the sedan, and at €73,899 for the Estate, with the AMG Performance Package priced at €7166.20.
