Land Rover LRX Concept Car

The Land Rover LRX concept is a highly-fuel efficient cross-coupe that claims to reduce fuel consumption by up to 30 percent. The LRX concept includes a 2.0-litre turbodiesel hybrid that features an Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) that allows the car to utilize electric drive alone at minimum speed while maintaining a full and even improved 4X4 capacity.

Reuters report that the LRX will be the first Land Rover designed to address the CO2 issue, with the proposed power unit being a hybrid 2.0 litre turbodiesel/electric, which will be capable of running on bio-diesel, and with potential CO2 emissions of 120 g/km. CAR Magazine online state that the car runs on electric power alone up to 20 mph (32 km/h), and that a non-hybrid version is likely to start production in 2010. TotallyMotor comment that the new concept vehicle was designed by Gerry McGovern, who was also the designer of the Freelander.

The Land Rover LRX concept will have its European premiere together with the Defender SVX on March 6 to 16 at the Geneva International Auto Show.
