De Kroeskoppelikaan is de grootste pelikaansoort en heeft een spanwijdte van ruim 3 meter. Zijn gewicht bedraagt ongeveer 13 kilo en is daarmee één van de zwaarste vliegende vogels ter wereld. Hun nest bouwen ze met planten hoog op een eiland, zodat er geen roofdieren bij kunnen komen. Gemiddeld legt het vrouwtje 2 eieren.
